12/7/08 Set List 12/07/2008

As always, a quick reminder that this entry is part of Fred McKinnon's Sunday Set List project.  Tomorrow we return to normal posting.  I promise!

Centerpoint Church 12/7/08

Opening Set
    -Meet With Me (Lamont Hiebert)
    -Everyday (Joel Houston)
-From The Inside Out (Joel Houston)

Closing Song
-He Knows My Name (Tommy Walker)

We did things a little differently this morning musically.  My regular bassist wasn't available, so rather than shuffle other folks around, I picked up the bass (though I did play piano on "He Knows My Name").  Because we didn't have any keys in the opening set, we went with a very guitar driven sound, which ended up being very cool.  We did Lincoln Brewster's version of "Everyday" (which was made even cooler by the fact that my lead guitarist downloaded Lincoln's POD patches this week).  To close things out, we sang "He Knows My Name" with nothing but keys.  Made for a nice contrast.  So far we haven't used any actual Christmas music... we'll probably start working some of that in next week as we get closer to Christmas Eve.

Today was the second week in our Advent series: "Searching For More Than Santa".  Today we talked about "Searching For Someone Who Really Does Know Everything" - we opened with the first in a series of "commercials" spoofing the current line of Mac ads ("Hi, I'm Jesus"... "And I'm Santa", etc.)  It was very well received.  We also found a hilarious little toy online called "Answer Me Santa" (think Santa Claus meets magic 8-ball) that we made use of.

Great setlist! We also did From the Inside out for our Friday youth service. Which is in my "Youth Group Nation" post in my blog page. Don't worry our worship team hasn't done christmas songs either but we will soon.

Great idea on showing the Mac ad spoof.

It was fun... we had seen several series of clips based in the same idea on sermonspice.com, but felt that we could save some money and get stuff more on point by doing them ourselves... so far they're turning out very well.

Have to admit that Everyday is one I use fairly rarely as it gets completely stuck in my head and on my nerves a bit after a while.
