10/25/09 Set List 10/25/2009
This post is part of Fred McKinnon's Sunday Set List project. See more sets at Fred's blog. CenterPoint Church 10/25/09 Opening Set -Blessed Be Your Name - A - Matt Redman -I Will Overcome - D - Charlie Hall -Everlasting God - Em - Glenn Packiam Closing Song -Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) - E - Chris Tomlin I love switching things up. Fortunately, a majority of our CenterPoint folks do too! Sometimes we do it on purpose, and other times it happens out of necessity. That was the case today. Our men's retreat was this weekend (in a church as small as ours, an event like that can really put a dent in the congregation), and that along with several other absences left us pretty short handed today. We ended up going with nothing but 3 vocalists and keys, and it worked out very well. I didn't lead today, so all I had to do was play piano. Not bad! We picked our set to work well with that setting, but also to coincide with the new series we started today on spiritual warfare. We wanted a different kind of illustration to open this new series, and our creative team came up with a very cool one. We used Matthew West's song "The Moment Of Truth". We had one actor out front performing a "monologue" of sorts illustrating the verses of the song, and then during the chorus, we lit a large screen from behind to show an "angel" battling a "demon". I was one of the characters behind the screen so I didn't really get to see any reaction, but from what I heard afterward, it was well received. Here's a picture of the stage with the screen lit that I took on Friday: All in all, a very cool service. Looking forward to what's coming these next few weeks! 10/18/09 Set Lists 10/20/2009
As always, this post is part of Fred McKinnon's Sunday Setlist Project. Check out Fred's blog for more sets! I've got two lists to post this week... CenterPoint Church 10/18/09 Walk-In -Rain Down - G - David Crowder Opening Set -Your Grace Is Enough - G - Matt Maher -Glorious One - C - Steve Fee -Oh The Glory Of It All - A - David Crowder Closing Song -From The Inside Out - Bb - Joel Houston This was an EPIC week at CenterPoint, at least musically! The band was spot on and the mix was great. We used click tracks on everything this week, and ended up with a very full, rocking sound in the process. We decided to try something a little different, in the form of David Crowder Band's "Rain Down" (we did the "Remedy" version, not the original). Definitely the most complex loop we've ever run, but it went off without a hitch and people were really digging it. This was the fifth and final week in our new vision series, "Multiply". This week the message was "Multiply Sites", and Pastor Dave talked about the eventual goal of planting a new church/campus/ministry/something in the fall of 2011. I know that for myself personally, I'm very excited about this! Cedarville United Presbyterian Church 10/18/09 This brings up another thing that happened during my unplanned blogging hiatus. I've been attending and playing at C.U.P.'s contemporary experience, which they call "Bread & C.U.P." for about two years now. When the previous worship leader graduated and stepped down in the summer, they asked me to take over, which I was more than happy to do! This week ended up being a little different, as our numbers were very low. (Actually, CenterPoint has been down the last couple of weeks, too... pretty sure half the state of Ohio is sick right now) In any case, I had a set list planned, but ended up scrapping it and just playing a couple of requests. Here's what we ended up with: Forever - G - Chris Tomlin Here I Am To Worship - E - Tim Hughes Open The Eyes Of My Heart - D - Paul Baloche C.U.P. is into a little bit older stuff than most of the other gigs that I play, but I don't really mind it. It's fun to do something different than what has become "normal" for me and play some of those old tunes again! Playing With Aaron Shust 10/04/2009
Last night I got a chance to play with Aaron Shust. Definitely one of the coolest things I've ever gotten to do! Let me explain a little bit: A couple of weeks ago, Aaron posted a YouTube video with a very simple contest: each night of his current tour, he's pulling one person up to play "Matchless". All you had to do to enter was record a video of yourself playing the song, post it on YouTube, and leave a comment for Aaron to check it out. 24 hours before the show, he picks somebody, comments on their entry, and you're in! I hadn't originally planned on doing it (because the closest show was a solid 6 1/2 hours away from Columbus), but once I realized that nobody had entered yet for that date, I went ahead and put a video up. Long story short... I did get to play. I left Columbus at 9:00 yesterday morning, picked my dad up in Wheeling around noon, and made it to Watsontown, PA by 5:30. We got to go to the pre-show meet & greet and acoustic concert, so I did meet Aaron before the show, but there was no sound check, no rehearsal. He just called me up when it was time for the tune. Made it back to Westerville right at 4 AM and grabbed a couple of hours of sleep before church. Definitely worth it, though! A great experience all around. Here's the video... the audio is pretty bad. I always swore I'd never be one of those people uploading concert video that sounds like this, but since I'm actually in this one, I'm going to make an exception! 10/4/9 Set List 10/04/2009
It has been a very long time since I've posted a set list! In any case, I am back now! Don't forget that you can check out TONS of other sets at Fred McKinnon's blog each week! CenterPoint Church 10/4/09 Opening Set -Meet With Me - A - (Lamont Heibert) -My Savior, My God - D - (Aaron Shust) -Amazed - D - (Jared Anderson) Message: "Multiply Leaders" Closing Song -Came To My Rescue - Bb - (Joel Davies, Marty Sampson, Dylan Thomas) We had a great morning at CenterPoint, despite some unique challenges. I was dead tired today from my adventure playing with Aaron Shust yesterday (yeah, I really did! more on that in a future post!) and the 14 hours of driving it entailed, and our pastor was out with the flu. One of our elders jumped in and did a GREAT job with the message today! In my long hiatus, I missed blogging about the new vision statement that we laid out for CenterPoint a few weeks ago. Basically, the new vision is to "Multiply Disciples, Leaders, Groups, & Sites", with the ultimate goal being the launch of a new site or campus in the fall of 2011. It's very exciting stuff, and this was the fourth week of a six week series dealing with that topic. We kept it pretty simple today, musically. We opened with "Meet With Me" (always a favorite) and led straight into "My Savior, My God" (I mean, how could I not! :-P ) and then directly into "Amazed". We did "Came To My Rescue" (another CenterPoint favorite) to close. We used a smaller band today (5 piece instead of our usual 7), but the sound was really tight. Solid stuff this morning. Since we were talking specifically today about multiplying leaders, I got an opportunity to talk a little bit about the way we do that at camp. I drew a bad picture on a poster board, but I think it got the point across! A great morning of worship today! |
