We had baptisms yesterday, which is always a great celebration at CenterPoint! Beyond that, the message was great and the band was really on... a great time of worship!
We cut a song up front this week, because we needed the time for baptisms. No big deal. We did play a special - "Love Is Here" during the offering. It's a great song... I've been waiting for the right week to do it eve since I heard it, and I was really glad an opportunity came along!
This was the second week of Dave's "Changed" series on Philemon. The message was about having a new perspective, so we tried something different... when Dave got up to preach, he stood in the back of the room! Because we use folding chairs and project front and back, we were actually able to have the entire congregation turn around to listen to the message (we ran extra speakers to the back). It was a very effective illustration! I loved it. We closed the service with "My Chains Are Gone". Just an acoustic and my vocal (since they were both wireless - that way we avoided turning the whole congregation back around for the closing song).
Lot's of great creative stuff going on yesterday, and a great time of worship at CenterPoint!
We're only one week away from the 1 year anniversary of Sunday Setlists! Check out more sets on Fred's blog!

This was a very exciting, high energy week at Centerpoint! Due to some schedule changes (and what was actually a mistake in my own scheduling process), we ended up with a 9 piece worship team on stage this week. I'm pretty sure that's the biggest group we've ever had on stage since I started working at CenterPoint. That presented a couple of monitoring challenges, but everything ran pretty smoothly, and the energy of the bigger team was really great. Timon led worship this week (I had originally planned to be at FOH, but ended up getting to play keys after all) and did a great job!
Pastor Dave is on vacation this week, but we were incredibly blessed to have Mike Chilcoat as our guest teacher yesterday. Mike directs Young Life throughout Columbus, and also leads the group that meets at CenterPoint each week. He is very high energy, very engaging, and VERY funny! He spoke about the temptation of Jesus and how Ho modeled ways to deal with temptation in our own lives, and the message was excellent! We were also blessed by the presence of quite a few Young Lifers who came out to hear Mike teach.
We had a software glitch with the teaser video for next week, but Jen was on top of it and figured out a workaround. Everything ran very smoothly in the service.
Another great week at CenterPoint... really looking forward to the series that we're launching this coming Sunday... can't wait to share it with all of you!
This week marks the 50th consecutive week of Sunday Setlists on Fred McKinnon's Blog. Check out more sets here!

What a great time of worship yesterday at Centerpoint! We were working with a slightly smaller band because of scheduling issues, but the folks that were there really played well. Musically, I thought it was one of the better services we've had in quite a while!
We wrapped up our first summer series yesterday with a message about not being a stumbling block to others' faith. To illustrate that point, we used a clip from the movie "Eight Men Out" - I wasn't familiar with the film before this week, but it really did make the point! We also used the dc Talk song "What If I Stumble" during the offering... good stuff! The congregation responded very well to "Mighty To Save" at the end of the service. It's always encouraging to be able to look out and see folks really getting into worship!
Yesterday was our second service running a second projector on the back wall. I'm really enjoying being able to see what's on the screen from the stage, so I think we'll keep doing it for now. What's more, we got through the whole rehearsal and service yesterday without any technical glitches or issues... always makes my day better!
Overall, a great service yesterday!
I haven't written anything here in a while. I hadn't planned to be so absent, but life has just been crazy lately! Now that the dust is settling a little bit, I figured I should check in here and fill everybody in!
I spent two weeks from June 13-27 as a camp counselor at Kirkmont Center. I can honestly say that this is the thing I look forward to most each year. This was my 12th consecutive summer there as a camper, counselor, or both. This summer I spent my first week with a group of 6th grade guys, and had 7th graders the next week. I was also the music director for both camps. As always, my time at Kirkmont was definitely the highlight of the last year.
As soon as I got back to Columbus, it was time for another adventure: moving. I've lived in the same apartment for 3 years now, and my roommate's been there for 4, but we decided it was time for a change. We moved to a new apartment last weekend. Pretty crazy coming straight off of two weeks of camp and then moving. We did get it done, though! Things are slowly starting to settle in here in the new place. Life is starting to feel back to normal. That's a good thing!
In other news, we finally got the vocals tracked for my new CD! That means that all the tracks are down now, so it's just mixing left to do! I'll be looking forward to hearing the final mixes and sharing them with all of you as soon as possible!
That's it for now... lots more coming soon, including my return to Sunday Setlists this weekend.
